The Department of Economics at the University of Verona advertises PhD
Research Scholarships for foreign applicants for the academic year 2008-09.
The Doctoral Program in Economics and Finance is designed to train doctoral
candidates in a broad range of advanced studies for careers in teaching and
research in universities, in public and private research organizations, in
financial and consulting institutions and private companies. The department
recruits promising students from Italy and abroad with courses taught in
English. Students are accepted directly for PhD degree. As prerequisite,
students must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in
Italy or the equivalent level of education from an institution outside
Italy.
Some areas of research interests of the Economics program are welfare
economics, development economics and economics of inequality. In particular
the Doctorate Program organizes international winter and summer schools on
these subjects (see http://dse.univr. it/it/ and http://dse.univr. it/ssef/) .
The internationalizatio n program, financed by the Italian Ministry of
University and Research and the University of Verona, has lead in the recent
years to exchange agreements with the universities of Essex, York,
Wisconsin, Cergy-Pontoise, Cyprus, Oviedo, Campinas and Colombia.
Depending on research interests students may however undertake period of
research in other international institutions benefiting in this case from a
50% increase of the scholarship up to 18 months.

Economics and Finance see page 27 of Attachment 1 of the Call for
Applications) . Please note that, when filling the application form, you may
apply both to the Doctoral Program in Economics and Finance and to the two
international scholarships. The international scholarships for our PhD
Programme will be allocated separately from the general scholarships (see
page 28 Attachment 1 of the Call for Applications) .
The final stage of evaluation involves an interview in English that will
take place in Verona on October 8 (see Attachment 1 of the Call for
Applications) .
